      We have our first question:

I have an appointment coming up for surgery as I have endometriosis. I don’t really want to take annual leave for it but also don’t want people to find out what I am having surgery for. What are my options?

You do not usually need to take annual leave for surgery. If your operation and recovery mean you’re unable to work, you can take sick leave and provide a fit note if required and this can come from the hospital. Your employer only needs to know that you’re having a medical procedure and how long you’re expected to be off – they do not need to know that it’s for endometriosis unless you choose to tell them but you might find that your organisation has a fertility or womens health policy that might allow for paid time off for procedures – so it might be worth asking HR if such a policy exists.

If you are looking a support for fertility in the workplace, we have a number of resources in our information hub.
