Hi allJust a quick question. I have 2 frozen embryos and am looking to do a fet. I had a fet done 2 years ago and it resulted in my baby girl. We woukd like to give her a sibling now. Looking back the reports the embryos say they are 4B, not second letter. My daughter was 4BB. Does anyone know what 4B means? Thanks!

      Hi Kiran,

Fertility clinics often grade embryos slightly differently but if a second letter wasn’t recorded and the embryos were created in the same clinic where you had your last transfer – then it might be worth checking with the clinic.

Embryos are usually graded in the following way:

Number – this is from 1-6 and looks at the expansion of the embryo’s cavity

First letter – A -D is the inner cell mass quality

      Second letter – A – D the trophectoderm quality

Grading is only a snapshot of the embryo and i have seen embryos that were graded very low go on to achieve a healthy pregnancy – so it really is just a look down the microscope of what the embryo looks like.

      I hope that helps,

      Fran
