Hi Fran, it would be really helpful to have a more definitive answer on which specific supplements are worth taking and which are a waste of time! There’s so much competing information out there … Maybe if you could give your top suggestions of things it’s hard to consumer enough of through general diet?

FranKeymasterHi Rachel, more than happy to provide some information on this. The most important supplement when trying to conceive is Folic Acid – this will help to prevent some issues with baby such as spina bifida, it will also help with energy levels and overall health for mum and baby. Vitamin C and Zinc are equally important in boosting your immune system and Vitamin D is also needed. Many of us are deficient in Vitamin D and we don’t know it – so ensuring that you have a supplement will support overall health.
For men – they will benefit from Vitamin D also but they should definitely take Zinc and selenium as this is proven to help with sperm function.
Plenty of fluids, a varied diet and reduced caffeine will support your overall health when on a fertility journey.
Another area that is often overlooked is protein shakes – I would suggest making sure that you look at the ingredients and choose ‘clean’ or vegan protein shakes as many of them contain a large amount of sugars and other additives.
Hope that helps?Fran x

Super helpful – I’m fairly certain I’m set for Zinc and Vitamin D as I focus on those anyway. Folic acid is not something I specifically look at at the moment with my diet / training schedule, so definitely something I could add in!
